What is THC-B?

What is THC-B?

The cannabis plant contains about 120 different forms of phytocannabinoids. Each cannabinoid has its own distinct qualities, some with stronger psychoactive effects than others. In 2019, an Italian research team discovered a novel cannabinoid and dubbed it THC-B (Delta 9 Tetrahydrocannabutol).

THC-B is structurally similar to Delta 9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), but it has a butyl side chain instead of a pentyl one. THC-B also binds to CB1 receptors (located in the central nervous system) and CB2 receptors (found mostly in the immune and digestive systems) like THC does. Simply put, this indicates that THC-B's regulatory effects are achieved through the endocannabinoid system's activity, which in turn affects a wide range of bodily processes (ECS).

THC-B users experience many of the traditional effects of cannabis, such as the proverbial “high” we feel when smoking THC. THC-B, has a specific high that is unlike any other, and it is equally as potent as THC-P. In other words, when comparing it to the standard THC, THC-B might be just as powerful. THC-B is well known for its very stimulating psychoactive properties, which also include soothing nausea and anxiety, increasing hunger, and reducing stress.

What Makes THC-B Special?

Researchers claim that THC-B primarily works on CB1 and CB2 receptors in the brain, making it functionally identical to THC in terms of the endocannabinoid system. Also, unlike the more common THC, THC-B demonstrated a higher binding affinity with CB1 receptors in the brain, meaning this its effects interact stronger with our ECS.

Since THC-B is entirely federally lawful and legal in 38 states in the United States, it is preferable to the traditional and illegal Delta 9-THC because it practically carries higher benefits and effects of Delta 9-THC.

How is it produced?

About 113 different cannabinoids, including tetrahydrocannabutol (THC-B), are found in hemp. In late 2019, researchers found THC-B, a cannabinoid with exceedingly low concentrations. In fact, it was found alongside tetrahydrocannabiphorol (THC-P) by a group of Italian researchers using liquid chromatography to analyze the chemical makeup of the hemp plant.

We utilize only the most reliable extraction techniques at our facilities. The Butane Honey Oil (BHO) extraction has been the subject of much research and finds widespread application in the culinary and aromatics industries and is arguably the best extraction method out there.

What effects does THC-B have?

Since THC-B is new to the block, there isn't a lot of extensive research on it, meaning its definitive long-term effects are as of yet unavailable. Nonetheless, its discoverers and users describe the experience as:

  • Tranquil

  • Relaxing

  • Soothing

  • Relieving

  • Easing

With a side of a clean, mellow, mental and physical buzz.

What sets THC-B apart from CBD?

CBD (Cannabidiol) does not provide the same addictive properties as THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) does. While cannabidiol (CBD) has many medical applications, it cannot provide the same intoxicating high as THC-V or Delta 9. THC shares many of CBD's advantages, but it also adds the euphoric "high" that can be greatly valuable to certain users.

Potential Uses and Benefits of THC-B

THC-B is such a new compound that, to this day, there has only been one main study that has been able to confirm its existence and barely scrape the surface of its properties.Due to this, not much is known about the possible applications or advantages of THC-B for certain.

However, the preliminary research indicates that THC-B operates similarly to THC, with the possibility of possessing qualities that are analgesic and anti-inflammatory. THC-B possesses euphoric characteristics that are comparable to those of THC, and it also has the potential to be a sleeping aid.

It has been hypothesized that THC-B, which has a greater affinity for binding to CB1 receptors than THC does, would be more powerful than THC.

However, it's supposed to have a highly stimulating and synergistic effect that offers a truly one-of-a-kind experience in terms of mood, comfort, and across the mind and the body. However, there is still a great deal to study.

Legality of THCB

Considering our products contain THC-B made from pure Hemp extract, businesses like ours have the green light to produce, distribute, and sell their wares within the United States. For all practical reasons, cannabis with less than 0.3% Delta 9-THC is now considered "Hemp" under the federal Controlled Substances Act after the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 was adopted and signed into law in December 2018. In addition, we must not forget that the federal government does not prohibit THC per se but solely Delta 9-THC.

THC-B Strains

Our customers usually shop around for different strains for them to use across different scenarios. It all depends on whether you like a Sativa, Indica, or Hybrid.

Because so little study has been done on this new cannabinoid, it is currently unknown which varieties may contain higher quantities of THC-B than others.

Currently, we have two products that contain THC-B, which also come in three different strains/flavor profiles.

Is THCB safe?

After the discovery of THC-B, studies were performed on smaller animals, with encouraging results that were consistent with the effects of THC on humans. Researchers observed reduced pain levels, sluggishness in responding, and an improved quality of sleep. Again, strong potential anti-inflammatory and analgesic qualities were also noted by the team.

The preliminary and experiential evidence indicates that THC-B may be effective for mood enhancement and pain reduction. THC-B is promising for its medicinal potential, however further study or feedback is needed before it can be advocated.

Possible side-effects of THC-B

Due to the lack of research and peer-reviewed information about THC-B, users should be cautious when using THCB until more study is conducted. We believe it could cause similar negative effects to those who overly consume too  much cannabis, including drowsiness, dry mouth, and lack of energy, as is the case with any other psychoactive chemical. Because of the substance's strength, it's best to ease into it at smaller doses, learn how your body reacts, and then work your way up to higher ones as tolerance develops.

User Guidelines

The consumption methods of e-pen cartridges, disposables, and edibles are all preferable to smoking burnt cannabis according to research. We’d recommend reducing your consumption to an occasional level, no more than once a week or on the weekends. Wait at least 6 hours before driving or using heavy machinery after consuming cannabis. It is also not a great idea to mix alcohol and strong psychoactive cannabinoid products.

Ways to Consume THC-B

As with any new product, it's best to go with a well-known and reputable name when trying out something as innovative as hemp.

Since THC-B is so new, the current market only offers a small handful of product categories from a couple of manufacturers.

Elyxr has been providing its users high-quality, lab-certified state of the e-pens, both disposable and cartridge based, since the 2018 Farm Bill was passed. The most common forms of THC-B products on the market now are listed below.

  • THC-B vape Cartridges:

When it comes to vaping, THC-B cartridges are your best bet for fast-acting, potent effects across a wide variety of strains. They are crafted using a THC-B extract isolation and terpenes of varying strains, and they include no fillers or artificial ingredients. You can use these carts with any standard, low-wattage vape pen device.

  • Single-Use THC-B Vape Pens:

Disposable vape pens infused with THC-B will operate similarly to those containing other cannabinoids; however, the vape oil used in these pens will include THC-H extract rather than another cannabinoid, and will also feature terpene profiles tailored to the THC-B strain. For those who aren't aware, disposables are a hassle-free alternative to conventional e-cigarettes.
